Wavy Hair and Coleman Ranahan
Recently it came to the attention of the Chicago Bears and that of local radio station 670 SCR The Score, and the Chicago Tribune that Fox Sports MADE UP headlines in a package (meaning graphics and video) that aired on the Saints/Bears game last Sunday bashing 1st string quarterback Jay Cutler.
The headlines weren’t real. Daryl Johnston even said, “Actual headlines” during the game. Bullshit. And everyone knew it. They were called out on it. They tried to apologize. Dan Bell VP of Communications for Fox Sports, attempted to sweep everything under the rug by apologizing to the Tribune and coming on the McNeil and Spiegel show on 670 AM. He dodged Spiegel’s question when asked whether or not a national apology would be made by citing he’s already on 670 SCR and issued an apology to the Tribune.
This was on national television. Normally I have no problem if the team is suffering and the quarterback is bad for you to put a package together when Cutler is suffering. But you made everything up. MADE THEM UP. On NATIONAL TELEVISION.
Dan Bell, you’re shaming your company on a national level by trying to sweep this under the rug if you don’t issue a national apology. Local isn’t enough. Your team did this on a national level. A fully prepared package that RAN during the show. This wasn’t an offhand comment that some commentator made. This was prepared and RUN. How is the person who made the package not issuing the apology?
As Terry Boers said on 670 SCR, “What do you need fake headlines for?” If the Bears are bad, those headlines will write themselves.
Fox already doesn’t have a good reputation when it comes to facts anyway, but Fox Sports? What the hell are you doing? You’re broadcasting football for Christ’s sake. This isn’t the 2012 election.
Fox Sports, Dan Bell, I don’t want to watch football on a network that decides to start making things up. If I want to make things up about football, I’ll get drunk, throw rocks at seagulls and pretend I’m Brian Urlacher tackling a ball carrier when it’s really a cute chick on Jackson Street coming off the Metra. Get your act together. And Who Ya Crappin?
