Wavy Hair and Coleman Ranahan
(Coleman here. I love Dave’s interpretation on this. My take: If you can’t handle one comedian snapping on an audience member for being ridiculously stupid, get out of comedy. And don’t EVER record a comic period, let alone when he is working a bit out. That makes you vile and bad.)
Tonight My World Was Destroyed Or How I Read This Woman’s Bullshit Blog About Patton.
I saw something tonight that shook me to my core.
I watched comedian Patton Oswalt perform in a small room. Patton has long been one of my comic heroes and he gave us all a treat by showing up at such a…
Classic.
My film review podcast, The Coleman Ranahan Podcast, is over. Done. Sorry for anybody that is disappointed.

But it’s been time to move on from that for awhile. I’ve enjoyed doing that podcast for three years, starting in 2008 after becoming a radio intern, and slowly building up some sort of fanbase. The truth is I had no idea what kind of audience I really had.

Apparently I was averaging some decent listeners per month, but from the list of problems one problem was lack of audience participation. That’s not the main reason that I feel it’s time to move on from that podcast though.
I love movies, I do. I’ll do whatever I can to contribute to other people’s podcasts to talk movies anytime they want me to. I like being a contributor. I think my growing involvement with film-making though is taking me in a different direction. I’d rather make movies than produce my own podcast about them.

Sure there a few things I might do differently if I could back, but I don’t want to. I had fun with the things I did. The podcast went to odd places, from doing odd comedy bits set to jazz music, to dumb character pieces with most of the voices being done by me (which most of them sound alike anyway), it went to creative spots.
Another podcast will eventually take the place of what I used to do. Something much more creative. I have a list of ideas that I want to enact. I don’t know when exactly I’d start on this, but maybe sometime within the next year.

I’m especially grateful to the handful of people who have contributed to the podcast by leaving an iTunes review or jumping on as a guest, especially Steve from HNH. Also thanks to everyone who were telling their friends about the podcast. Have no fear, I’ll be back with something one day.

For now, I turn my focus to my next short film. I am eager to get it off the ground and I think it’s a huge step in the right direction with what I want to do as a director. I hope everyone who was along for the ride on the podcast will accompany me as I begin my career as a filmmaker.

Thanks everyone, time to start making movies.
